Narrative Essay

   I only have one music track on my draft right now but I really enjoyed the process of trying to find music that would work for my piece. At first hearing my own voice was like hearing nails on a chalkboard. It was almost unbearable. Now that I am getting more familiar with the technology, I am more comfortable and can record a few different takes. When I first started out, the editing process was not fun for that reason, hearing you voice over and over, but now that I am getting past that, I enjoy editing. The software is touchy and froze on me, but other than that, I am happy with the capabilities of the program. I have really enjoyed this project so far, and I can't wait to explore more music options. The music aspect can be overwhelming, but will give our pieces an extra edge and I am glad music is incorporated on this assignment.

    I can't believe how naive I was starting out about thinking I could get everything down in one or two takes, especially in this longer assignment.

    How many takes did you use on this latest project?

    I also liked how we added music into this assignment, but there is just SO much music out there to choose from! It took me hours to settle on one that would fit.
    It is also interesting to hear others having multiple files for one script, as I try to do only one file. If there is a mess up, just pause and restart the sentence. Editing is one of the more fun parts of this whole process.

      I agree with you! I DO like the editing part, as frustrating as it can seem at times. I was also really impressed at how well everyone's pieces included music, especially the essays with more than one track! I actually play with the bass on mine, to lower my voice in the recording.
      I always feel like my voice sounds like a chorus of high-pitched birds chirping. :) I find that that playing with the bass and treble helps me. I'll start with the AM Radio profile and tweak from there. :)
      For what it's worth, though, I think your voice sounds perfectly normal.

    I think its interesting reading all these posts about how people hate the sound of their voice, for me I guess I am so used to it because I like to audition for plays and have learned to be comfortable with watching my audition tapes. I like your honesty in that regards though, because yes it can be unnerving to listen to your voice on audio if you are not used to it. I also agree working with music is kind of fun, even though it can be quite touchy at times.

Pitchin' the Story

What is the trouble? In my family there is a letter that has gained quite a bit of infamy. The letter is from one of my relatives directed at his father in law, and is really quite a gem. It contains a poorly spelled indictment of the author's own father in law for such grievous offenses as lying about height and being an all around ass hole. The letter calls the subject, "the littlest man in the biggest way." I don't even know the author very well, but this letter has circulated to the whole extended family and has become a joke among everyone who reads it. I discovered two different areas of the genre while working on this piece. While I knew the concept of jumping right into the fire I didn't understand how powerful it was until I heard it. The vocal element adds even more emotional punch to strong first lines. As I read it I found myself stumbling over formal words and slipping into more contractions and slang. I edited as I was reading it to make it flow more naturally. Fragments can work in your favor here as there is no long written twisting sentence for the reader to get lost in and instead a natural way of speaking.
